The Mystery Science Theatre 3000 crew skewers a really bad 1972 movie, Doomsday Machine, with Casey Kasem and Mike Farrell (Trapper John) in a bit part. Joined at the beginning with Gruber, Mr. Rosso from Freaks and Geeks. |

Only our second Cirque Du Soleil show, but as a lifelong Beatles fan, this one will be hard to top. Great start to a winter vacation with Erinn and Jason. Remixed Beatles songs sounded phenomenal as accompaniment to spectacular staging. There was a story buried in there somewhere, but not really necessary. Small quibble, could have been more gymnastics and less dancing, but a great show. |

If I hadn't read the playbill, explaining that this was a satire on the stereotypical happy leprechaun Irish image, I probably would not have been able to laugh at their misfortunes, since all the characters were crippled in some way. Though ultimately sad, reflecting Irish history, there were many funny moments and unexpected plot twists. As always, impressive set and excellent acting. |

I've never been a fan of George Hamilton, yet when it was annouced the an understudy would play the lead, I felt cheated. It actually became unimportant. The true star was Chistopher Sieber who played Albin to the hilt, though nobody could top Michel Serrault from the French film version. Also good were Gay Marshall as Jacqueline and Jeigh Madjus as Jacob the butler.

The power of theatre, the proper role of punishment in society, and a sand covered stage. At times painful, but ultimately hopeful.

I like the concept, adding live action and music to classic silent films, but I didn't like the music, and the singers and dancers were just a distraction. Liked the film though, a well done Fritz Lang sci-fi vision of corporate slavery. |

Thornton Wilder's allegorical history of the human race, using absurd juxtapositions, promoting American Exceptionalism, and borrowing from sources as diverse as Finnegan 's Wake and the Bible. Great sets and connection with the audience. Elizabeth Helfin did well in a rare shot as lead.

In what has become a Memorial Day tradition, another performance of the Saturday night radio show, this time with guests Shawn Colvin, one third of the Waillin' Jennys, Heather Masse, and Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek. Also included an appearance of Guy Noir. |

For most of the show, I was being too critical, judging each of the four actors portraying Elvis on how well they impersonated the King, which wasn't fair. For the final act, I finally acepted it for what it was and just enjoyed the show. The final Elvis could have pulled of a Vegas show on his own, which madeit all worth while.

Always a sucker for anything Irish, and a few good stories as expected, but it didn't seem to go anywhere. |

A few funny scenes, but not a single memorable song. Tried too hard to appeal to to adults by throwing in a few inappropriate risque joke which fell flat. The set was cartooney, and sometimes worked, but mostly just looked cheap. (review) |

Slapstick French vaudeville from 1906. Compared in the program to today's sitcom's, it didn't strive for any profound lessons, just relied on silly fun situations, and larger than life characters. Timing and acting were excellent as always, and the two sets well nicely done. (review) |

A World Premier and a new adaptation by Patrick Barlow who also made "The 39 Steps" (which we enjoyed). While receiving positive reviews, I was spectacle. Using 4 actors in multiple roles and Tiny Tim as a puppet, seemed too avant-garde for a classic, yet it worked. Imaginative set, realistic ghosts and a strong performance by Andrew Long as Scrooge.
