Photo 01-26-18 Charlie Zahm Roberts Burns Supper Fair Hill, MD notenotenote

A fun evening of all things Scottish as we toast our Scottish Whiskey (and an excellent Firetower Brewery stout) to a Scottish farmer, and sometimes poet, as we raise funds for farm preservation through the Cecil Land Trust.

Always a pleasure to discover new talent. Young Irish guys carrying on a cherished tradition while putting their own spin on some original numbers. Their Irish wit was also on full display with engaging audience banter. Just released their second album, but I expect they have a successful career ahead of them.

A little too much Rock, and too little Celtic. The novelty of screaming guitars accompanying bagpipes wore out quickly, and the corny choreography was embarrassing. I like other Celtic Rock groups, but they left me cold with a splitting headache.
Photo 03-30-18 John Gorka The Queen Wilmington, DE notenotenotenote

Saw him once before in 1992, and should have made an effort to see him again before this, because it was a wonderful show. Now a seasoned performer yet self-effacing and relateable. Quite a bonus being able to pick up the tickets online for $8.50.

Saw this group perform Rubber Soul a number of years ago and wasn't impressed. This time with the added strings and horn section they pulled off a surprisingly good recreation of the entire classic Beatles album. My sisters enjoyed it as well.

Surprisingly good. Having a bluegrass band do nothing but Grateful Dead tunes seemed like a stretch but going acoustic hardly made a difference. Perhaps the Dead was a bluegrass band at heart.

Photo 05-20-18 Arlo Guthrie Re:Generation Tour Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE notenotenotenote

I've lost count of the number of times we've seen Arlo, and it never gets old. Well, I guess it's old, but it's still a treat. This time he was accompanied by only his son Abe, daughter Sarah Lee and a drummer. Arlo stuck to his classics, even threw in Alice's Restaurant, while Sarah Lee continues to develop and showed of a couple of very nice new tunes, which were a highlight of the night.

Photo 06-19-18 Roger Daltry Performs The Who's Tommy The Mann Center Philadelphia, PA notenotenote

We have become accustomed to sitting in the front row for concerts at the Grand, so it's a bit of a shock to return to the nosebleed section, but it fulfilled a nearly 50 year old quest. We were set to see The Who perform Tommy at the Electric Factory in October 1969, but somehow got distracted and never made it. Have seen the play several times, but this is the first time seeing the full rock opera performed. Not the original band of course, with only Roger Daltry remaining, but Simon Townsend filled in for his older brother. Backed up the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia which sometimes worked, but was too often lost in the background. Closed with amped up versions of Who Are You and Baba O'Reilly.

Photo 09-21-18 Hubby Jenkins The Kennett Flash Kennett Square, PA notenotenote
Have been on this venue's mailing list for years yet had never attended a show. It took a free ticket to finally break that record and will surely return. Had previously seen Hubby with the Carolina Chocolate Drops where he is overshadowed by Rhiannon Giddens so it was nice to see him get the full attention that he deserves. Many thanks to the Hadley foundation which sponsored this show.

N'Awlins is one of my favorite cities, the food, the history, even the sleaze factor is charming, but it's the music that keeps it alive. I was unfamiliar with the self titled film and most of the acts set to perform, but it sounded like a can't miss evening. Highlight for me was in Indian Mardi Gras gang, the 79rs Gang with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, but the closing set with the entire cast and led by The Dirty Dozen Brass Band was a close second.
Photo 12-14-18 Lúnasa and Ashley Davis Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE notenotenote
Repeat performance of Lúnasa made better by the addition of Ashley Davis who sang her own songs with arrangements by the band. CD worthy.
