Mary Arden Collins opened and was so excited to be in front of the hometown crowd, that she was more animated and appealing than the main act. Dave Mason who made one of the best albums of all time with "Alone Together", plus putting out a couple of great albums with Traffic, seemed to just be going through the motions. Why some talented people aren't able to continue to be creative is a sad mystery.

What a sweetheart. Was only a casual fan before the show, but she won me over instantly. She connected with the audience with her story telling as much as with her songs.

Always a good time. We've seen them several times, both in N'Awlins and the touring group, and the tunes don't change, but it never gets old. This band included original member Narvin Henry Kimball on banjo and Frank Desmond (with the red socks) on trombone who has performed on every record.

Completing my first concert experience of seeing a Brian Wilsonless Beach Boys. Obvious signs of his unstableness, and although he can no longer hit the high registers, he nailed a full reproduction of the entire Pet Sounds album. Wondermints provided the required tight harmonies. First experience of a crowd cheering every attempt at a high note, even though he rarely hit one.

One of my favorites from the 70's, but we unfortunately had terrible seats in the side balcony where the acoustics were atrocious. Probably the only time we experienced that at the Grand. It was a pretty full house, so rather than find better seats we left at intermission. Big disappointment.

Unfortunately she had a terrible cold, yet it was the most enjoyable concert in quite some time. Possibly to protect her voice, she told a number of warm stories including ones about her mother who was sitting next to Barbara! Stacey Earle opened and also put on a nice show.

"New Orleans Meets Harlem" A history of the development of jazz from Scott Joplin through Duke Ellington and Thelonius Monk. Good tunes, but too clinical. They never seemed to break loose.

Finally. Driving USA Tour. A Beatle heavy set with pyrotechnics, and all the stage gimmicks unheard of in the days of the original songs. Live and Let Die, is one my least favorite songs of his, but it was fun live.

Of all of the comp tickets we received from Erinn, this was probably the biggest score. Still relatively unknown, but it became her breakout year, earning 5 Grammies in 2003. Great performance, and there was no doubt she was headed for the big time.

A semi regular at the Grand, and although his many albums span many styles, his live shows stick to the basic Mardi Gras sound. Always fun, but I wish he would expand the set list.

Jethro Tull unplugged. Anderson, and an acoustic backup band, do some Tull classics, a few solo numbers as well as numerous stories. Have never seen Jethro Tull, but this was a satisfying substitute.

The touring band, spreading the spirit of New Orleans,is a rotating cast of characters. This one included long time trombonist Frank Demond and his red socks. Frank has played on every recording and has been a member of the band since 1974. Let the good times roll.

My father was a big fan of Victor Borge who provided an fun way to enjoy classical music. B.J. Ward does the same for opera. Great voice, very funny and it doesn't hurt that she was a former Playboy bunny.

Accompanied by the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, he performed his music from movie soundtracks for the first half, followed by his songs in the second. While the orchestra was appropriate in the beginning, it seemed constrictive during his songs. It left no room for deviations or spontaneity.

With Dr. John on piano, Charlie Musselwhite and his harmonica and Shemika Copeland belting out the blues, it was indeed a night of celebration. They each got to do solo stuff as well as an ensemble and presented a historical journey of the blues in the US.

Another first time show of a long time favorite, the Moody Blues. Unfortunately, the weather was brutally hot, we could barely see the stage, every hit was played note for note, yet it was still enjoyable. Also first time for Slaid Cleaves and repeat performances by the Barynya Russian Balalaika Duo and a very funny Mike Cross and favorites, Brother.

I had played this Zimbabwean's Tuku Music album many times, so I thought I knew what I was in for, but was surprised at the high energy show that emphasized dance music more than his thoughtful lyrics.

We've seen the hometown boy numerous times, and performing with the big band is the best way. First experience with his wife's Angel Band which opened and turned out to be a treat.

We've seen many unique acts over the years, yet this one was unlike anything that came before. A fascinating background as Touareg rebels from Mali, only adds to the appeal, yet seeing Saharan nomads slinging electric guitars was somewhat disconcerting.
