A Band Called Honalee |

A Peter, Paul and Mary (and friends) cover band that was pleasant enough, but not very original. They did a good job, and it was nice to hear the old folkie songs again, but it was a bit too sanitized. Disney could give them a job. |

The Boys of Sligo plus Cathy Jordan have been together since 1991 bringing their brand of traditional Irish music to the world. While the boys preferred to hang back, Cathy ably handled the vocals and storytelling. Cathy marveled at how we continue to celebrate St. Patrick's day all month, while in Ireland it only lasts one day. |

A world premier of an chamber ensemble adaption originally conceived for a full symphony. An investigation into the causes of Beethoven's deafness and death accompanied by his music. Spoiler alert: he went deaf due to meningitis and died from a combination of alcoholism and lead poisoning. |

Since Celtic Classic again conflicted with Bike to the Bay, we decided to travel to my hometwon as a substitute. Enjoyable stay, but this festival is a far cry from Bethlehem's. Attended Friday night and all day Saturday and there was no need to go on Sunday since we had already seen all the acts, some twice. Good to see a few old favorites, like Eileen Ivers, Seamus Kennedy, Burning Bridget O'Cleary and the Glengarry Bhoys and discovered a few new enjoyable acts including The Kildares and The Elders. More photos here, and videos here. |

A fan for decades, and finally got to see her perform. Wonderful storyteller and magnificent voice. Great blend of Celtic history and song. Even got a Meet and Greet after the show. Loses one point since it might have been even better with a full band. |

The last show of her first solo tour. Solo is a bit of a misnomer since she was backed up by the entire Chocolate Drops band plus 2more on bass and drums. It did allow her to expand beyond traditional southern americana music that showcased her amazing vocals. |

Took a chance on this one. Advertised as traditional French Canadian music, which it was, but unlike like Cajun tunes, which I expected. Similar instrumentation, fiddle, accordion and bouzouki/ guitar with the addition of harmonica and percussive step dancing. Apparently the Catholic religion prevented people from dancing, so, under the tables, they'd accompany themselves with foot percussion to escape that prohibition. Didn't understand a word, but the feeling came through easily. |

First performance in Delaware for this Canadian "folk/rock" duo. Pushing the boundaries of folk music by including numerous recorded loops and frequent instrument changes. High energy fun! Aaron Lee Tasjin opened, goofy guy with a couple of equally quirky songs. Good fit. |

Bluegrass for the 21st Century. Chris Thile, former mandolinist for NickleCreek, and future host of Prairie Home Companion, led his very personable and talented band through a unique mellow style of bluegrass tunes. Using only a single, incredibly sensitive mic, produced a very crisp and soothly sound. Got to chat with the band briefly after the show. |
