Multi-instrumentalist and pleasant stage banter with a wide ranging repertoire. Wish he had stuck to more hammered dulcimer tunes but some of the songs were memorable as well. (Ironic that in such a small venue, I wasn't able to get a better photo but the light man didn't show and the room was quite dark).

Showing my age since there was a time I wouldn't have considered attending a brass band concert, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. They showed why they are repeatedly the Number 1 rated brass band in the world. Stirring and moving Space related tunes, originals as well as movie classics. Broke my 3 yr old pledge not to buy any more CDs.

Not quite as exciting as the first time we saw them, but still an energetic display of Taiko drumming, acrobatics, martial arts and a touch of humor.
Photo 03-02-16 Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins & Anais Mitchell Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE notenotenote
Patty Griffin was the headliner, but gave the least interesting performance. Saw Sara Watkins recently touring with A Prairie Home Companion, and I enjoyed her work the best. Anais Mitchell was unknown to me, but I liked her as well.

Scottish band playing primarily contemporary celtic tunes, but also some folky/ singer-songwriter stuff. The introduction to the sounds made them sound interesting, but when sung with their thick brogue, I was unable to catch the lyrics.

Barbara went with Susie and they both enjoyed it.

A musical tribute to Irish independence on the 100 year anniversary of the Easter uprising. Told a great history of the struggle for freedom using some familiar songs which I now see in a new light. Included a nice mix of tunes and step dancing.

Though we have seen her several times, she continues to charm me with her warmth and passion (and good looks). At 75 she has given up trying to preform soprano numbers but she did successfully hit a few high notes. Brought along a young singer to help her with the tough parts. The usual mix of old and new, but seemed heavier on the coffeehouse days this time. Looking forward to seeing the PBS special celebrating her 75th birthday which has pretty much the same set list, but accompanied by many guest stars.

A bit of a dissapointment. We have seen her as part of I’m With Her with band mates Sara Watkins and Sarah Jarosz, and expected less rock and more Celtic as a solo act. Enjoyed the opening act more, Cassandra Jenkins.

Return visit, this time at a larger venue. Still a great mix of Americana styles and playful stage presence. While we had second row seats, our view was quickly obscured when the band encouraged dancing in front of the stage. This was the first time I have seen this allowed, and guests in front of us were even more annoyed, storming out very early in the show. I grudgingly accepted it, but I'm too old to be standing for a 3 hour concert. Toughcats opened.

Only get to attend this excellent Celtic festival when it does not conflict with Bike to the Bay. Some old favorites like Seven Nations, Makem & Spain and Burning Bridget Cleary plus new discoveries No Irish Need Apply , Calan, Barrule, The Moxie Strings and Low Lily.
Photo 10-08-16 Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE notenotenote
An intimate evening with old friends. We've seen Lyle several times with his Large Band, and this was a nice change of pace. First time seeing Robert Earl who swapped stories and songs with his college buddy Lyle.

Have seen Sin City Band several times over the years, but this was a first seeing the bandleader in a solo show. Performed mostly originals, and concentrated on his songs with a local connection. Decided to veer away from the set list though since it was announced that Bob Dylan had won the Nobel Prize in Literature. He decided to include some Dylan songs which led to more campfire singalong classics. A true throughback coffeehouse experience.
Photo 10-19-16 Chris Botti Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE notenotenote
Unknown to both of us, but we took a chance on this jazz trumpeter. Great performer who, unlike many jazz musicians, bonded quickly with the audience, and generously highlighted the talents of each of his band members. Good mix of styles with a rousing finish. He even encourged the audience to take photos which was against the venue's policy, so I did. I also record two videos which are posted to YouTube

A pleasant surprise. I had no idea that Annie Talarico from Treme ocassionly joined Chris Botti on tour, and we were fortunate enough to be treated to her virtuosity. Her rendition of Led Zepplin's Khazmir was the best number of the night.

Photo 12-10-16 The Curtis Chamber Orchestra Mitchell Hall Newark, DE notenote
Students from the Curtis Institute, as well as faculty member Shmuel Ashkenasi and CEO Robero Diaz in a program of all Mozart numbers. Pleasant way to spend the afternoon, but I did nod off a few times.
