First comedy club experience. Improv group who, according to Wikipedia, didn't produce any stars other than Jack Baker, TV bit player and porn star. I remember a Wallace Shawn type of guy, but without a program...

I think I had heard his Dueling Tubas, but that was about all I knew about him. Performing with his fabulous furniture and his dry wit, I became a big fan.
John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Zal Yanovsky of the Lovin' Spoonful and others in a transition from radio to Saturday Night Live. I also saw them on the UD campus, but can't remember when. Urban legend has it that Chevy Chase started his addiction to pain killers after a pratfall gone wrong during that show. Belushi did his Joe Cocker impression, later perfected on SNL. (article)
If possible, even funnier in person than on screen, even though most TV skits were repeated verbatim. Worth every penny of the record breaking price of $6. With Neil Innes and Carol Cleveland.

Comedy Cabaret

Musical parodies, should have been as big as Weird Al, but remained a regional act. Got a lot of Philly airplay with "Nuns" and "Let's Call In Sick".

On Saturday Night Live at the time. Great impressions and "sniglets". Surprisingly, never quite made it to the the big time.

Two months before TV show went on the air. Have never laughed so
hard.

Second City
Kibbie Dome

While Matt Eick and I were visiting Scott Fendorf, we took in the touring company show of Second City. There was no program, so I don't recall who was in the cast, but according to the web, both Stephen Colbert and Amy Poehler were in the company at that time, so maybe I saw them.

Embarrassingly small crowd in an inappropriate large gym. We got a pair of free tickets the radio station was giving away, so the paid attendance was minimal. In spite of that, the SNL cast member but on a brave face and delivered a funny show..

Not just exploding watermelons. Warped sense of humor carried the show to it's ultimate conclusion.

Carrot Top
Grand Opera House
Wilmington, DE
The red headed prop master picks on Britany Spears and Hootie among
others. Extremely silly, but very funny.

Sharps, Flats & Accidentals
Grand Opera House

The Flying Karamazov Brothers juggler/comedy act. Arrived an hour
late with Dan Strawn and Eef Elzinga and had to endure abuse
as we were being seated in the front row.

Went with fellow Iowa boy, Kirk Scheckel and Erin O'Reilly. In spite of the most creative use of the F word, he never quite made it to the big time.

The Smothers Brothers
Grand Opera House
Wilmington, DE
Have aged very well. As timely and as funny, if not funnier,
than their heyday in the 60's. Special Guest Yo Yo Man (Tommy) performed
on the street with local kids before the show.

Michael Winslow
Storyville

The sound effects guy from the Police Academy movies. Most amazing part of show can be seen in the following video. With a little electronic help, those screaming Hendrix guitar licks are really being made by his voice:

Carrot Top

Return performance at the Grand was just as silly and just as funny. This time we had Jessica and Jay with us to join in the fun. The shtick was the same, but fortunately with different props and different jokes.

Ray Romano
Grand Opera House
Wilmington, DE
We had not seen his TV show before this performance, but we became overnight fans and had to catch up with all the old shows as reruns. Parts of this performance were recorded for a CD misleadingly entitled "Ray Romano Live at Carnegie Hall". This video is from a few years earlier, but he did the cookie and twins jokes:
