Top Ten Albums - CDs
The distinction between albums on CD or on vinyl is, of course, completely arbitrary. I have purchased some albums on vinyl, 8-track, Cassette, CD and now am buying them again as MP3s (will we ever "own" a song?). This is a list of my favorite CD's, i.e. the ones I play most often.
1.
Music For A Darkened Theatre - Danny Elfman
January 1, 1990
Darkened Thaetre Darkened Theatre
I think I listen to this one most often. There a few stinkers included, but it contains some of the best film and TV tunes of the 80's.

2.
Volume 3: Further In Time - Afrocelt Sound System
June 19, 2001 - Real World Records
Save in time Further in time
The first two albums have some even better tracks, but I don't own them, so this one makes the list. The fusion of two of my favorite genres, celtic and afro-pop in an updated style.

3.
Live In Dublin - Bruce Springsteen with the Sessions Band
June 5, 2007 - Columbia
Live in dublin Live in Dublin tracks
Bruce hadn't released an album of covers before the Seeger Sessions, and this one takes that idea to a live audience. Raw and exciting, these classics never sounded so good.

4.
Les Misérables (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
October 25, 1990 - Decca
Les Miz
This one moves me every time. The tunes, the lyrics and the performances. A very long album, but surprisingly few weak spots.
5.
Graceland - Paul Simon
August 1986 - Warner Brothers
Graceland
Graceland
Always a fan, but he reached new heights by combining literate lyrics with South African rhythms. The discovery of Ladysmith Black Mombassa led directly to an appreciation of World Music.

6.
Live @ The World Cafe Volume 17: Three Flights Up
2003 -World Cafe Records
Wold Cafe 17
I could have chosen almost any disc from this series, but I think I play this one most often. Consistently showcases the best live performances from the adult alternative world.

7.
Goin' Back To New Orleans - Dr. John
June 23, 1992 - Warner Brothers
Goin back to New Orleans Goin back to New Orleans
It's Mardi Gras every day with this one. A tribute to his hometown with fellow N'Awlins guest musicians Pete Fountain, Al Hirt and the Neville Brothers.
8.
White Ladder - David Gray
1999 - ATO Records
White Ladder White Ladder
Breakout album for David Gray with instant classics, Please Forgive Me and Babylon.
9.
Sacred Fire - Santana
October 19, 1993 - Polydor
Sacred Fire Sacred Fire
Next to Woodstock, the most exciting live album. A mix of old and new, and if one could only own one Santana album, this should be it. Ironically, it apparently is their worst selling album ever.
10.
Rumor And Sigh - Richard Thompson
May 1991 - Capitol Records
Rumour and Sigh
I don't understand why there wasn't a half dozen hit singles from this album; "I Feel So Good", "I Misunderstood", "Keep Your Distance", and my favorite, "1952 Vincent Black Lightning".
Honorable Mention

I really wanted to keep this to 10, but I have to through in A Rush Of Blood To The Head - Coldplay, Mumford and Sons - Babel, and The Who's Tommy (Original Cast Recording).
