02-05-00 Solo Flight Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
Two solo pieces created and performed by PTTP alumni Carine Montbertrand and Robert Ramirez. Carine created her clown character while studying in Paris for "The Tragic Destiny of Etiennette Duchamps". Robert performed "Estimated Time of Arrival".
02-10-00 King Lear Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE maskmaskmaskmask
Aquila Theatre Company of London/New York present Shakespeare's greatest tragedy. Perhaps I enjoy it so much since it was first performed on my birthday in 1606.
04-29-00 The Real Thing Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmask
PTTP alumni return for Tom Stoppard's uncomfortable play within a play. Hard to connect with insincere, dishonest characters.
05-04-00 The Triumph Of Love Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmask
The disappointing alumni season continues with a forgettable comedy by Marivaux.
Poster 10-11-00 Macbeth Delaware Theatre Company Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
This is one of those plays to see over and over again, and it was pleasure to see PTTP grad Kathleen Pirkl Tague reprise her role as Lady Macbeth from her student days in 1996.
01-26-01 The Tragedy of King Lear Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
Could there be a more difficult assignment than to be handed King Lear as the first play for the class of 2003? Part of the fun of PTTP is to watch them grow during their tenure, but this class started out with a bang. Michael Gotch got his shot at the lead.
  04-20-01 Love's Labour's Lost Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
The first year students finish the semester with another Shakespeare classic. Always amazing how they can pull it off, but again they do. Sarah Fallon as Rosaline.
Poster 10-05-01 Titanic: The Musical The Playhouse Theatre Wilmington, DE mask
Never fails to amaze when a touring Broadway production can't hold a candle to our local graduate training program. Not that is was the actors fault, this was just a forgettable play.
11-15-01 Mark Twain Tonight Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
Just as enjoyable for us as a repeat performance, as it seemed to be for Hal Holbrook who has been performing Mark Twain since 1954.
Marquee 01-05-02 The Tale of The Allergists Wife Ethel Barrymore Theatre New York, NY maskmaskmask
Family trip to the Big Apple. Funny play starring Valerie Harper, Tony Roberts and Michele Lee, but Shirl Bernheim as Frieda stole the show.
01-31-02 Broadway - Curtain Up! Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE maskmask
Music by the Gershwin brothers, but the production fell flat.
02-02-02 The Doctor's Dilemma Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmask
Dreading another Shaw play, but was pleasantly surprised. Clever skewering of the medical profession led by Lynn Berg as Sir Colenso Ridgeon.
02-16-02 An Ideal Husband Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE mask
Oscar Wilde created the best collection of witticisms that have become part of the public consciousness, yet somehow this play left no impression at all.
02-17-02 Candida Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE mask
My political leanings should predict that I would be a big Shaw fan, but somehow, his plays keep disappointing me.
02-17-02 The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
Hooked from opening notes of "Summertime", and continuing through "I Got Plenty of Nuttin'" and all the other classics. Well done.
03-11-02 Trinity Irish Dance Company Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
Just in time for St. Paddy's Day. Credited with breaking the mold of Irish dancing and laying the foundation for Riverdance and the other knockoffs that are now considered the standard.
04-12-02 The Trial Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE mask
Three stinkers in a row, though not the fault of the actors. A fine Spring day shouldn't end with Franz Kafka. Lynn Berg as Joseph K.
04-17-02 H.M.S. Pinafore Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
Never sure if i should list opera under Concerts or theatre, since the theatre equalled the music. May have been my first Gilbert and Sullivan opera, and I enjoyed it more than expected. OperaDelawre - give us more!
04-19-02 The Winter's Tale Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
This is more like it. A big Shakespeare production with large cast and a couple of musicians. This is what PTTP does best. Michael Gotch as Leontes and Krista Forster as Hermione.
04-26-02 Private Lives Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
PTTP's other strength is comedies and this Noel Coward offering brings them back on track. Sarah Norman as Sibyl Chase and Megan Noble as Amanda Prynne.
05-04-02 Beauty And The Beast Lunt-Fontanne Theatre New York, NY maskmask
Disney can't hit a home run with every show. Went with the Wooldridges the night before a Bike New York ride.
06-05-02 Buddy Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
A thin story line of the life of Buddy Holly, but fun sets and a talented band bring his music to life. Erik Hayden in the title role.
09-28-02 Oedipus Rex Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
Went into this one with great trepidation. An ancient bilingual Sophocles play with Japanese actors and director performed in the round. If it hadn't been part of the PTTP season, we wouldn't have ventured to see it, which would have been a big loss. Since the play is already so difficult, it didn't really matter that the lead actors spoke Japanese. Director Tadashi Suzuki put on a mesmerizing show.
10-01-02 Smokey Joe's Cafe Three Little Bakers Wilmington, DE mask
Well, they tried hard. We probably expected too much from a community theatre group. Unfortunately, the food matched the quality of the performance. This place's days are numbered.
10-03-02 Proof Delaware Theatre Company Wilmington, DE maskmask
The subject sounded interesting, religion vs. mathematics, but the production fell flat.
10-11-02 Saint Joan Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
Joan of Arc may be legendary, but I didn't realize how little I knew of her story until seeing this play. Sarah Fallon did a great job as Joan in her struggle against Church and State.
11-07-02 A Delicate Balance Delaware Theatre Company Wilmington, DE mask
The play won a Pulitzer Prize for Edward Albee in 1967, but it was another in a series of DTC disappointments. Memorable only in the the fact that Annette Hunt was in the cast, who formerly played Harriet on Ajax commercials. Yeah, that's how bad it was.
11-30-02 Sofrito! Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE mask
"David Gonzales with Larry Harlow and the Latin Legends Band in a mix of poetry/music/solo-theatre" or so says the program, yet I remember nothing from the show.
12-07-02 The Count of Monte Cristo Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
The massive novel adapted for the stage by guest director Charles Morey. Action packed adventure with Jeffrey Hawkins as Edmond Dantes.
12-13-02 Travesties Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmask
A little too bizarre for my tastes - Lenin, James Joyce, memories, I didn't get it.
12-14-02 Get Back! Grand Opera House Wilmington,DE maskmask
One of the better Beatles tribute acts, performed by former cast members of Beatlemania. Three acts - Ed Sullivan Era, Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road/Let It Be. Very realistic in both looks and sound. Can only imagine what it might have sounded like if the Beatles had performed live in their final years, but this was probably pretty close.
12-19-02 The Gift of the Magi/
A Christmas Memory
Delaware Theatre Company Wilmington, DE mask
How can you go wrong with two uplifting holiday stories? Well, it can be done. Not to be nasty, but there is something about John Grassili that just makes my skin crawl.
12-06-03 The Wannabe Jew Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmask
One man show, written and performed by PTTP alum Hayden Adams. The story of a good Presbyterian boy longing to be Jewish.
01-16-04 Ben Hecht: Child of the Twentieth Century Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmask
Another interesting one man show with guest artist J.R. Sullivan telling the story of a reporter and largely forgotten pioneer of films. Jean-Luc Godard said they he invented 80% of what is used in American films.
02-20-04 The Complete History of America (Abridged) City Theatre Company (Baby Grand) Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
Follow up to the abridged Complete Shakespeare, and using the same slapstick and one liners, three actors cover the history of the USA.
02-27-04 Shakespeare: Everything and Nothing Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
David Howey, former member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and current professor at The University Of The Arts, distills 30+ years of performing Shakespeare.
03-06-04 Nunsense DuPont Theatre Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
Not being Catholic, much of the humor went over my head, but the star power help alleviate that. For this 20th anniversary tour, the nuns included Kaye Ballard, Georgia Engel, Mimi Hines, Darlene Love and Lee Meriwether. Biggest thrill was hearing Darlene Love belt out the tunes.
04-04-04 Love Letters Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmask
While it was nice to see married couple Steve Tague and Kathleen Pirkl Tague take the stage together, I found the play very boring.
Review 06-01-04 Collected Stories Contemporary Theater Company Wilmington, DE maskmaskmask
Lynn Redgrave and Karina Mackenzie star in the debut of the too short lived Contemporary Theatre Company. I concur with the reviewer who found it wordy in the beginning, but ending powerfully. It was a treat to see such a distinguished actor in a small intimate setting.
08-07-04 Brigadoon Longwood Gardens Kennett Square, PA mask
Beautiful setting, but we left after intermission.
Marquee 10-30-04 On Golden Pond DuPont Playhouse Wilmington, DE maskmaskmaskmask
James Earl Jones, Leslie Uggams, and Linda Powell (Colin's daughter) star in a pre-Broadway run of a reworking of the classic Henry Fonda/Kathryn Hepburn film. I liked it a lot, and although it only lasted on Broadway for a few months, it did garner two Tony nominations.
12-17-04 Twelfth Night Or What You Will Hartshorn Theatre-PTTP Newark, DE maskmaskmask
First performance of the class of 2007 and they jump right in with Shakespeare. We get our first look at Sarah Dandridge, Mic Matarrese, Maggie Kettering, Erin Partin and Sara Valentine who all give us many fine subsequent performances.
