Photo 08-26-16 Children's Museum The Children's Museum of Indianapolis Indianapolis touristtouristtourist
Return visit, but it never gets old for Cannon.
Photo 11-05-16 Living History Museum Conner Prairie Fishers, IN touristtouristtourist
Blisteringly hot day, so couldn't see it all, but Cannon enjoyed the interactive activities highlighting Indiana's natural and cultural heritage.
Photo 11-04-16 Frank Lloyd Wright property Taliesin West Scottsdale, AZ touristtouristtouristtourist
FLW's winter home and studio. The more I know about the man, the less I like him, but I sure admire his buildings.
Photo 11-04-16 Museum Musical Instrument Museum Phoenix, AZ touristtouristtouristtourist
Overwhelming collection of instruments from every corner of the planet. I got carried away with taking photos but I couldn't help myself. A few bits of Rock memorabilia, but that seems like an afterthought.
Photo 11-05-16 Science Attraction Butterfly Wonderland Scottsdale, AZ touristtourist
Billed as the largest breeder of butterflies, it was an interesting concept but it was too hot and uncomfortable in the facility, so we didn't stay long.
Photo 11-07-16 History Museum Wells Fargo History Museum Phoenix, AZ touristtourist
It's free and takes less than an hour! Primarily a PR effort located in the bank's headquarters, but worth an hour of your time if you happen to be in Phoenix.
Photo 11-07-16 Museum The Heard Museum Phoenix, AZ touristtouristtourist
Extensive collection of Native American artifacts, in fact, too much to take in all in one da
Photo 11-07-16 Science Museum Arizona Science Center Phoenix, AZ tourist
Granted it would have been more enjoyable with kids in tow, but overall, it was pretty lame.
Photo 11-09-16 Museum Arizona-Sonoma Desert Museum Tucson, AZ touristtourist
A hodge-podge of a zoo/arboretum/museum that was worthwhile but the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix was better.
Photo 11-10-16 Historic Park Tubac Presidio State Historic Park Tubac, AZ touristtourist
Arizona's first state park. Not much left of the Spanish mission other than a schoolhouse.
Photo 11-12-16 Historic Park O.K. Corral Tombstone, AZ touristtourist
One street dedicated to Tombstone's glory days including a reenactment of the Gunfight At O.K. Corral. Tacky but fun.
Photo 11-27-16 Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Indianapolis, IN tourist
Surprisingly small collection of Indy cars. Interesting to see some of the old ones, but we went through the entire exhibit in about 1/2 hour.
Photo 11-27-16 Lights at the Brickyard Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indianapolis, IN touristtourist
Unique opportunity to ride on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track and some of the holiday light displays were good, but it was much too short.
Photo 02-05-17 Plantation Destrehan Plantation New Orleans, LA touristtourist
Not as impressive as some other plantations, but still interesting.
Photo 04-19-17 Museum Mound House Fort Meyers Beach, FL touristtourist
Oldest house Fort Meyers Beach built on a 2000 year old pile of shells from the Calusa Indians.
Photo 04-20-17 Circus Museum The Ringling Sarasota, FL touristtouristtourist
Ringling Brothers collections as well as Howard Tibbals labor of love, who recreated the entire Ringling Brothers circus operation in miniature.
Photo 04-20-17 Ca' d'Zan The Ringling Sarasota, FL touristtouristtourist
Home of John and Mabel Ringling of Ringling Brothers fame.
Photo 04-20-17 The John & Mabel Ringling Museum of Art The Ringling Sarasota, FL touristtouristtourist
Last building visited in The Ringling complex, Sarasota, Florida. Photography was prohibted in the special exibit area, but got a few shots of their permanant objects.
Photo 05-07-17 Maritime Museum Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum St. Michaels, MD touristtouristtourist
An example of failing to appreciate what is in one's own backyard. It took several decades, but we finally visited this premier maritime museum. We really need to spend more time omn the Eastern Shore.
Photo 06-10-17 Music Museum The Museum at Bethel Woods Bethel, NY touristtouristtourist
Celebrates the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair and the entire decade that it came to represent. Groovy.
Photo 07-21-17 Factory Tour Turkey Hill Experience Columbia, PA tourist
I have three requirements for a successful factory tour. 1. Product samples - check, we got ice cream and iced tea. 2. View the production line - fail, factory cameras didn't cut it. 3. Free admission - major fail, come on, this is a marketing tool, we shouldn't have to pay $9.50 for a big commercial.
Photo 07-22-17 Plantation Rock Ford Plantation Lancaster, PA touristtouristtourist
An under appreciated gem. We got a solo tour of the mansion of Edward Hand, Adjutant General during the American Revolution. Considered one of the most important examples of pre 1800 Georgian architecture in Pennsylvania. Not a lot of restoration was required and one room is left untouched.
Photo 10-14-17 Fundraiser Apple Butter Festival Fair Hill, MD touristtouristtouristtourist
First time volunteering with the Elk Creeks Preservation Society at their annual Apple Butter Festival. Great event for a great cause, restoation of the historic industiral complex referred to as The Beehive in Fair Hill, MD. I'll be back next year.
Photo 11-26-17 Zoo The Louisville Zoo Louisville, KY touristtouristtourist
Erinn, Cannon and Barbara enjoy a nice day touring the zoo while Jason and I bike. Small but clever displays simulating viewing safari animals via stationary vehicles.
Photo 11-26-17 Bike Adventure MegaCavern Electric Bike Tour Louisville, KY touristtouristtourist
Preceding Lights Under Louisville, Jason and I toured the former quarry on electric bikes. Fun way to explore.
Photo 11-26-17 Christmas Event Lights Under Louisville Louisville, KY touristtourist
Unique event as one drives through a former quarry decorated with Christmas lights.
Photo 12-02-17 Christmas Market Poplar Hall Newark, DE touristtourist
A new event expanded from a family and friends gathering may have been more popular than anticipated. The food and crafts lines were too long so we didn't buy anything but it has the potential to be a holiday tradition.
Photo 02-12-18 Factory Tour Utz Quality Foods Hanover, PA touristtourist
Self guided tour where one is to push a button to hear a description of the operation but three of them were out of order. Nice intro video though giving it a quaint mom and pop feel.
Photo 02-13-18 Factory Tour Martin’s Snacks Thomasville, PA touristtouristtourist
Favorite tour of the trip since we got to go on the production floor and sample warm potato chips and popcorn.
Photo 02-14-18 Factory Tour Snyder's of Hanover Hanover, PA touristtouristtourist
Third and final snack factory tour, and we left the biggest for last. Utz and Martin's were small mom and pop regional operations, but Snyder's in a modern mega factory which ships products to all 50 states and 54 countries.
Photo 02-14-18 Factory Tour Harley-Davidson York, PA touristtouristtourist
An amazing operation and the plant was surprisingly immaculate, cleaner than any of the snack factoies we toured. Wasn't quite enjoyable enough to prompt a purchase, but well worth a visit.
Photo 03-13-18 Museum National Watch & Clock Columbis, PA touristtouristtourist
An extensive collection and nicely displayed. Be sure to stay for a demonstration of the Engel Clock, an impressive, and profitable, endeavor.
Photo 03-14-18 Museum Ephrata Cloisters Ephrata, PA touristtouristtourist
A very interesting tour of the remains of a religious colony formed by German immigrant Conrad Biselle in the 18th Century. A number of buildings survive, but not so his celibate followers who led an austere life in preparation of the return of Jesus Christ.
Photo 03-14-18 Factory Tour Julius Stugis Pretzel Bakery Lititz, PA touristtouristtourist
America's first hard pretzel bakery. Current production facility is not open for tours but this original site still bakes soft pretzels for tourists. A treat to see an operating pretzel machine which my father worked on when he was employed by AMF. We also got to roll our own, but unfortuanely couldn't bake it.
Photo 03-14-18 Museum Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum Manheim, PA touristtourist
Off season tours have the advantage of small crowds, but there were very few buildings open and no interpreters, so we didn't get a lot out of it. Next time, bring a kid during the summer.
